Cyber Intelligence
In March1996 we began the development of the initiative that became the ComLinks Cyber Intelligence project. The realization during our work on Y2K was that most corporations and governments just hadn't a clue about their software, hardware and their critical infrastructure. Later in 1998 when the hype over Embedded Chips took over the quest for sensible remediation we realized we didn't fully understand the strengths and weaknesses of the technologies we had come to rely upon. That became even more apparent as the Internet, on which we have had a presence since the early days, became not the empowering answer to global communications, but a festering cesspool of crime, danger and malicious traps for the unwary. True the Internet has provided the conduit for governments, corporations and public communications beyond the wildest dreams of twenty years ago.
The malicious attacks became more dangerous as we moved through the past eight years, from teenage Hackers wanting bragging rights, to Organized Crime emptying people's bank accounts, running stock scams, and disrupting commerce and industry unless paid protection maoney. In 2008 as the Federal Government finally wakes up to the serious nature of cyber crime and cyber warfare with the secret Executive Order NSPD 54 signed on 8th January, 2008 we can only hope that corporations realixe that this could be their worst nightmare. Finally, like Y2K, the world is waking up to the threats we face in Asymmetric Warfare from organized crime, and governments. (Photo: With John Koskinen at the Clinton White House)
